Currently February

Our current unit in math is all about fractions.  I have including some links to videos, games, and freebies that are useful below.  Here is the unit overview...
Click on the pics to view videos, play games, and visit blogs to read more about what we're learning.
Here's an anchor chart on adding and subtracting fractions with like denominators.

add and subtract fractions with unlike denominators Common Core Math 5.NF.1 Add and subtract fractions with unlike denominators (including mixed numbers) by replacing given fractions with equivalent fractions in such a way as to produce an equivalent sum or difference of fractions with like denominators. For example, 2/3 + 5/4 = 8/12 + 15/12 = 23/12. (In general, a/b + c/d = (ad + bc)/bd.)
Classifying Triangles Anchor Chart (Although technically, scalene, isosceles, and equilateral can refer to sides OR angles. For ex, a triangle with angles of 45, 45, 90 is also isosceles.) I like the idea of gluing artifacts into the math journal (Runde's Room had the idea).
Angles in Real Life- Gym Addition

In ELA, we are working on Main Idea and Details and will be moving on to Poetry, Drama and Prose.  Again, I've included some goodies...
Week 3- main idea and key details This is a great poster to hang up to help students understand main idea. Find the Main Idea with Non-Fiction Texts Winter Edition *
